Buy Web Site Traffic — Should You Do It?

Here’s a question for you — should you buy web site traffic?  In the early days of your site (or in some cases, the site has been up months and months), it’s a tempting thought.

And while some paid web site traffic isn’t worth what you spend, there are situations where it can be pure gold!

So let’s take a closer look at buying traffic your your site (blogs included).

First, What Not to Do

First, let’s cover what you don’t want to do, and that’s buy untargeted traffic.  You know, the kinds that promise “10,000 visitors to your site in 24 hours guaranteed”.

The only thing I will guarantee with this is that you will spend money and not make a dime.  The traffic is highly un-targeted and the people are usually “incentivized” to visit your site and stay on it for 20 seconds.  Then they exit your site for the next on their list.

(Even though I warned hubby of this, he went and bought something like 5,000 “visitors”.  He couldn’t figure out why my 200 visitors were earning me money and his 5,000 didn’t make a penny.  That was a first-hand eye-opener for him, and he hasn’t done it since.)

Buy Web Site Traffic Options

You might have already great innovative and original content ready to be published on the site.  A great affiliate program.  All you need it traffic.  Okay, here are some other methods to bring people to your site.

Try advertising on other sites.  Consider placing an ad on some other web site in your niche which is already popular with a lot of visitors on a daily basis. Remember one important thing. The main aim of an ad is increasing visibility.  So advertising in just the right spot can bring you lots of traffic.  The tough part is finding the right spot for the right price.

Something popular is called pay per click.  The search engines like Google and Yahoo have some programs where you can write small ads and have them placed on the main search engine site, on blogs, etc.  In theory, this is also traffic that is well-targeted, if you choose the right keywords. Pay per click can make you good money in the right situation, or you could lose money hand-over-fist.  If you want to try, start with Google AdWords and go slowly at first.  Plan to lose money before you make it!

Advertise in a newsletter.  This one was a huge success for me, and I was lucky enough to get the ad for free, because I had a ClickBank ebook as an affiliate program (and the person sending out the newsletter got half the profits, so he did really well, too).  The down side here is it’s kind of hard to find people with a good newsletter in your niche that are willing to sell advertising.

Make Haste Slowly

There are a few ways to increase traffic to your web site and make it a success.  Remember, though to come up with good content on a regular basis so people want to come back. It goes a long way in making your site popular.

Buy web site traffic?  Yes, it can be profitable for your blog.  Just “make haste slowly” and do your due dilligence before plunking down your wallet.
